Praying for the Medical Mission Trip to Brazil
Craig and Julie Maddox, along with Brittany Shoemake are joining a medical mission trip to Brazil next month. Below are a few ways you can pray for them as they float down the Amazon River.
Medical Mission Trip
The primary mission of Amazon Outreach is bringing the people of the Amazon river basin into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, church planting and discipleship. The secondary missions include medical and dental services, well digging, and food distribution.
We will board a river boat in Manaus, Brazil and travel 24 hours upriver ending at the most distant village that we will visit. Then each evening we will depart and when we wake up in the morning, they will be at the next village. We do that all the way back to Manaus.
When we stop at a village, the doctors and dentists set up a medical clinic. This brings hundreds of people from surrounding villages to this area. While we are seeing patients, the other people on the mission with them will be conducting men’s ministry, women’s ministry, and children’s ministry. Some folks will also do door-to-door ministry.
We typically have evening worship services as well. For people who come to Christ, there is follow-up discipleship from Amazon Outreach missionaries who live in Brazil.
Details and Prayer Requests
From our church, it is Julie and I, as well as Brittany Shoemake, who are going. We will be joining another team from a church from Humble, Texas. We depart for Brazil on October 2. We are scheduled to return home on October 11. We are scheduled to be on the river from the 3rd to the 10th, visiting different villages each day.
1. Pray that our team would walk in unity, serving with humility and a shared purpose of bringing the gospel to the people along the Amazon River.
2. Pray that God would stir a deep hunger for the truth of the gospel in the hearts of those we meet; that those who do not know the Lord would come to know Him and those who do know Him would be drawn even closer to Him.
3. Pray that the Holy Spirit would guide our words, giving us wisdom and clarity as we share the good news.
4. Pray that the medical and dental care provided by the doctors, dentists, and nurses would meet the exact needs of the river communities, showing Christ’s love in practical ways.
5. Pray for safety for all involved on the trip and for their families back at home.
6. Pray for the logistics involved in the travel to Brazil, as well as all the travel on the River.
